About Us

The International Institute for Non-Aligned Studies (IINS) is an independent global think tank dedicated to advancing the principles and priorities of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Established on 19 September 1980, IINS was created to provide a strong intellectual platform for the developing world, fostering dialogue, research, and cooperation among nations seeking a more balanced and peaceful international order.

Our mission

Human dignity, equality and fundamental freedoms

IINS has held General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1998, and contributes to the work of the United Nations through research, publications, discussions and dissemination of information on UN priorities. In alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our work focuses on health, peace and security, human rights, women and child development, education, environmental sustainability, digital inclusion, and South–South cooperation.

IINS works in line with the ideals of the Non-Aligned Movement and focuses on issues concerning NAM countries and the Global South. It works against inhumane treatment of human beings and promotes NAM’s role in the present international order.

The Institute publishes books, articles, journals, bulletins, periodicals and digital content to create awareness on Non-Aligned principles, human rights and UN priorities. It keeps regular liaison with the United Nations Secretariat, ECOSOC-related processes, the Human Rights Council and other UN bodies.

Since 1981, IINS has organised seminars, conferences and round tables in India and abroad, and since 1993 its representatives have taken part in ECOSOC and UN human rights meetings in New York, Geneva and other UN venues.

Guided by the founding values of the Non-Aligned Movement — sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and solidarity — IINS continues to serve as a platform for elevating the voices of developing nations.

Our ongoing commitment is to build a fairer, more cooperative, and more humane world for present and future generations.
