About Us

The International Institute for Non-Aligned Studies (IINS) is an independent global think tank dedicated to advancing the principles and priorities of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Established on 19 September 1980, IINS was created to provide a strong intellectual platform for the developing world, fostering dialogue, research, and cooperation among nations seeking a more balanced and peaceful international order.
IINS holds Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), enabling the institute to contribute research, policy recommendations, and development insights across the UN system. In alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our work focuses on peace and security, human rights, women and child development, education, environmental sustainability, digital inclusion, and South–South cooperation.
At the core of our mission is the belief that human dignity, equality, and fundamental freedoms are essential foundations for lasting peace and sustainable progress. Through rigorous research and constructive dialogue, IINS supports initiatives that strengthen institutions, promote social justice, and build resilient communities.
Our peace and security efforts emphasize preventive diplomacy, conflict resolution, and reducing conditions that give rise to instability and extremism. By encouraging cooperation, inclusivity, and understanding, we contribute to global efforts aimed at safeguarding civilian life and promoting harmony among nations.
Across more than four decades, IINS has brought together policymakers, diplomats, academics, civil society leaders, and youth delegates from across the Global South. Our work spans policy studies, leadership programmes, conferences, cultural exchanges, and development partnerships — creating pathways for shared learning and collective advancement.
Guided by the founding values of the Non-Aligned Movement — sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and solidarity — IINS continues to serve as a platform for elevating the voices of developing nations. Our ongoing commitment is to build a fairer, more cooperative, and more humane world for present and future generations.
